Types of Timber

In addition to the passion and mastery applied in technique, another determining factor that highlights the final quality in shipbuilding and, of course, the durability of the yacht, is the choice of timber.

At General Yacht Carpentry (DeckYacht) we use the timber that is suitable for each application. The 3 types of timber mentioned below guarantee both safety and a high-aesthetic result: TEAK, IROKO and MAHOGANY. Every cargo of timber that passes through our shipyard’s gate has been selected almost piece by piece by our expert people, in order to meet the customer’s expectations, as well as the strict standards that we have set in the production sector. Moreover, the timber we use in our constructions has excellent natural elasticity, so that it can be used in the curved parts of the frame, which have to withstand the greatest stress!

For us, each piece of wood mounted on the hull is a 'mirror' of our commitment at the end result: it is 'clean', elegant, it comes from the heart of the tree and it has been naturally dried. Our wood goes through the desiccator, with humidity between 8°-14°. Below you will find information on the 3 basic types of timber we use, Burma TEAK, IROKO and MAHOGANY.
High durability so as to 'tame' the magic and the strong character of the sea!
